Spiderman progress

This week I made progress on my Spiderman fan art. The dark values turned out well, and the web lines came out sharp and accurate, following the contours of his body. I still have yet to figure out how I am going to do the soft cloudy background

Spiderman

I have started a new piece this week, I have decided to experiment with negative space and the use of silhouettes. I decided to make this piece in color, simply because I am getting tired of the usual monochromatic composition. I would also like to add more detail to the background of this piece than I have previously done

Snow trooper

This isn't current progress of my take on fan art. For this piece I wanted to focus on different textures, such as the cloth covering the models face. I also wants to focus on body figures and proportioning figure shapes. I am having trouble creating depth in certain parts of this piece, so I am still working out those problems before I move on

Eddie Vedder

I would like to focus on bettering myself at recreating portraits this year. For me, if someone can easily identify who you are drawing, then I believe the portrait is a success. My last piece was very dark and was lacking of a light source, so there was little emphasis on his eyes. The reference photo I used forthis piece had very prominent eyes, which I wanted to focus on this time. Getting the proportioning accurate for this piece was very difficult because the model was looking head on, so symmetry was key. I decided to use the conventional method in proportioning his face which I think worked very well. The dark hair on a black background also proved to be a challenge, so it also gave me an opportunity to expirement with highlights and lighter hues. I am very satisfied with the results of this piece, as of now it is my favorite piece this year.

Layne staley

I wanted to prove my flexibility and wide variety of artistic abilities so I decided to make my second piece a photo realistic one, complete with the use of a reference photo. I kept it in black and white so I could focus on smooth gradient and values. I also wanted to expirement with drawing textures such as hair. Overall I am satisfied with the final product, I only feel like I rushed in the end, especially with the hand. Although it isn't the main focus, I still feel like I should have put more effort into it.

Peas in a pod

This piece was made for a good friend of mine who wanted to incorporate her friendship with her close friend with the use of a metaphor. She came up with the idea of interpreting her and her friend as two peas in a pod and wanted no one but me to draw it for her. I thought of capturing their uniquely similar personalities by using similar exaggerated facial expressions, and using their eye colors to identify each other. It was meet meant to be a photo realistic piece, but rather a simple cartoon/charicature representing them. Overall I am very pleased with how the piece came out. I wasn't trying to experiment with any new techniques, just simply warming up to drawig again after a 3 month break. Sh was extremely satisfied with the piece herself, so much so that she plans on getting it tattooed on her. That alone makes it all worth it to me in the end, that someone loves what I do so much that they'll permenate put it on their body, so I'd say I did a good job with this piece.
